A long while back I was very opposed to the idea of being Santa, mainly because my workmates used to think it was a good idea. They were met with a curt expletive. Once work had become a thing of the past and I was invited to play Santa for money I warmed to the idea, especially as no children were involved.
It was a late call, 11:00 in Twickenham. I arrived at the staging area at 1030, met by an AD and shown the refreshment set up then the costume trailer. The costume was a magnificent heavy velvet, to change into it a compartment of a 40 foot trailer was unlocked for me; I had a mirror, vanity unit, seating area with a two person leather sofa, wardrobe and my own shower and WC. Definitely coming up in the world. A cup of cxoffe then a minibus to Twickenham High Street for half an hour of hanging around on a street corner then a decent lunch provided by the set caterers. Thank you licence payers, your money ensured I was well fed.

Then an hour of walking up and down the High Street being followed by the star, transport back to “my” trailer and back home – finished before the rush hour started. I like TV.
